VISHNU MAYA BOJU SAFELY BACK HOME - Thank You #Ranchi Gorkhas and All Others Who Helped
Writes: Bicky Sharma
Two days ago, we had shared a report on how an elderly woman, Vishnu Maya Tamang from Munsong in #Kalimpong had ended up in Ranchi, where the Gorkha Samaritans of Ranchi had found her.
After she was found by our fellow Gorkha brothers in Ranchi, they made a number of queries to the lady, and Mr. Bimal Thulung, a Gorkha Rights Activist from Ranchi, informed us that the lady was in perfect health both physically and mentally, and also said that the lady might have taken the wrong train mistakenly to end up at Ranchi. According to her, she was travelling to Bhutan and somehow ended up in Ranchi.
Soon, a process was initiated in order to unite the lady with her family. The Gorkha Community from Ranchi started planning for arranging to get her to Siliguri with an escort Mr. Suren Rai. We on our part started tracing the whereabouts of her family. We also contacted “Team Who Cares?” to arrange for her stay at any old age home if in case we couldn’t trace out her family, and Team WHO Cares? didn’t waste a moment to jump into action.
Thus, Mrs. Vishnu Maya Tamang started her journey in a bus from Ranchi with Mr. Suren Rai, who would drop her to Siliguri, and then attend his mother who was undergoing treatment in a Hospital in the same city.
Meanwhile “Team Who Cares?” confirmed all the necessary arrangements for the lady in an Old Age Home.
After we shared the report requesting people to help find her family, a number of good Samaritans came forward and passed the phone number and address of Sagar Tamang, the son of Mrs. Vishnu Maya Tamang.
When we talked to Sagar, we were in for a shock, as Sagar revealed to us that his mother had been missing for over a month. He also added that his mother was dealing with some mental disorder and disappearing from home and coming back had become her regular practice. On being queried if he had filed a missing complaint or tried to look for her, he casually replied saying that he or his family did not feel any necessity of doing the same as she had been disappearing from and again coming back herself since the past 12 years.
Things had already started getting suspicious, when he was asked if he would come to receive his mother in the following morning, and he was casual enough to reply that he wouldn’t manage to get any vehicle from his village so early in the morning and also requested us that her mother to be boarded on a vehicle to his village. We were left aghast.
To add to the story, calls started flowing in from the people of Munsong, informing us that the lady was subjected to very ill treatment at home and that she had left home for the same reason.
Amidst the entire conundrum, “Team Who Cares?” decided to send a team to receive and escort the lady further from SIliguri to Munson, as her son’s had feigned inability to receive her in Siliguri.
On 22nd of November, Mr. Suren Rai reached Siliguri with Mrs. Vishnu Maya Tamang at around 8 in the morning. This is where a pleasant surprise awaited them. Ms. Subarna Gurung, the granddaughter of the Vishnu boju's sister had come to receive her. Subarna then took boju to her place in Kalimpong, where her sister was waiting for her, and where her son and husband would arrive to take her home.
Vishnu Maya Tamang finally got united with her husband and her son Sagar at Subarna’s place from where she was taken home. Sagar admitted that some mistakes had indeed occurred and that he had learned some serious lessons. He also promised that he would make all the necessary efforts to see that such incident never happened again.
So what more did we need?
A photograph, of the family members united again against all the odds.
While we are deeply saddened by the fact that our Boju's and Baajey's are seen facing difficulties, most of the times - sometimes even thrown out of home, we are also inflated with pride having people among us who care to extend a hand of support wherever such a need arises.
We specially THANK the ENTIRE Gorkha Community of Ranchi, including Mr. Bimal Thulung and Mr. Suren Rai, who share the biggest hand in the rescue of Mrs. Vishnu Maya Tamang and reach helping her reach her home. Suren sir THANK you for taking the trouble to reach Boju to Siliguri.
We also thank “Team Who Cares?” who have always been there with all the sincerity and support wherever and whenever the society has needed them.
We also extend our gratitude to all the people who helped us connect to the lady’s family and Ms. Subarna Gurung who took all the trouble to come down to Siliguri and take the Mrs. Vishnu Maya Tamang back to her family.
Finally. THANK YOU dear readers, for caring and SHARING her story, without which, we would not have been able to reunite Vishnu Boju with her family.
