#Kurseong Municipality Distributes Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana Cheques to 164 Families

The Kurseong Municipality yesterday became the 1st municipality in Darjeeling region to hand over cheques under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) to 164 needy families.

We may remind our hills that the PMAY is a Central Government funded scheme which seeks to provide financial assistance to all the people who own land to build their own homes. In our hills, PMAY is known by numerous names – Hamro Ghar, Hyangla Dhim, Rong Lee, Tashiling etc as Bengal government has successfully set the impression that these schemes are being derived because of them. It is not. It’s a Central Govt scheme.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Samardip Blome of Kurseong Municipality said, “this is the beginning of a process which seeks to buld 2000 new homes under our municipality by the year 2020, everyone who own a land and cannot afford to build their houses can apply under this scheme for funds.”
Each family will get Rs 3.70 lakhs for the construction of their homes, out of which Rs 1.20 Lakhs were handed over yesterday, rest of the funds will be provided on showing progress resport.
Under this scheme PM Narendra Modi has sought to ensure that every family in India will have their own home by the year 2022.
