An 80 year old lady, only identified as Premlata tried to commit suicide at Gang Nahar, Ghaziabad on the 29th of December, 2016. Thankfully local people saw her before she killed herself and rescued her.
According to Amar Ujala which brought this story to light, Premlata is originally from near Ghoom-Batasey, in Darjeeling and had arrived in Ghaziabad 20 years ago to attend a Satsang program. For some reason, she stayed back and started to work as a Warden in one of the private colleges in Duhai. Recently she had come to Darjeeling to look up her family, but she couldn’t locate them, so she returned to Ghaziabad.
Premlata told Amar Ujala that a kind individual who runs a mess has been feeding her for the past 2 years. She has been trying to find an old age home to spend the rest of her days, but no old age home has been willing to take her in, out of frustration and homelessness she decided to end her life.
She had arrived at Gang Nahar around 2 PM when locals saw her and talked her out of committing suicide. They then took her to the local police station, where she pleaded with the OC to allow her to commit suicide. The OC refused to give any such permission, and advised her to meet with the DM to resolve her issue. Premlata left after that.
We have been unable to find out what happened to her or where she is now.
