Divide and Rule - History Repeats Itself
Writes: Akshay Keshav Pradhan
I do not know if i am allowed to speak my mind to the people of Darjeeling but I will somehow, and I hope you get to read my message.
The making of Kalimpong as a district is good and sounds prosperous and it gives hopes of good living to people living there and i am happy for the people there and would pray that all that's promised is achieved.
However, I would like to remind all of us about a story which most of us have heard when we were younger-
" 16th October, 1905 Lord Curzon ,the then Viceroy of India had partitioned Bengal into two parts- Bengal and Eastern Bengal. He gave the reason that "Bengal was too big too be administered by the government , so for the benefit of the people and the better governance Bengal would be divided".

The whole nation was sad by this and were wise to realise the intent that " Bengal was divided to weaken the nationalist movement of the people as Bengal was the leading centre for patriotism and growing nationalism and was thus divided for this purpose and for no other purpose". In short , The Britishers wanted to curb and destroy the nationalism spirit.
However, rightly said that 'History repeats itself'. The only difference is that we never realise the true intend of the things done . We are one yet we are divided. The demand for a separate homeland was already so fragile ,yet we have become even more weak henceforth.
The making of the Kalimpong as a district has kind of not made me very happy and I am unsure if I am wrong or right. However, I would congratulate those who are happy through this making of the district.
I also pray that a lot of the district and Kalimpong does grow to its fullest as Jeremy Bentham said" Greatest happiness of the Greatest number" which should be the motto of the energetic and thoughtful government!!!

Reminder- We will lose the moon if we focus on the star which may not even turn out to be a star because, all that glitters in not Gold!!
