WHOM DO WE BLAME: Ethnically we are being divided. Now territorially too
Writes: Amar Singh Rai
My heart bleeds! Ethnically we are being divided. Now territorially too! Who do we blame? The time has come for all to think and analyze rationally. Bengal's chauvinist attitude needs to be countered. We are considered " soft " targets and our weakness is being taken advantage of.
What are our weaknesses? Disunity, ego, money, position, jealousy, casual approach, taking things for granted, not being assertive, crab mentality, subservience --- we can go on and on and the list will be unending!
We are giving them an upper hand and they are harping on the past glories of Bengal and Bengalese. " What Bengal thinks to-day, India thinks tomorrow" is their eternal cry. For them how can a race of subservient people- "durwans", "servants", "aayas", "immigrants", "foreigners" question their intellectual superiority? Do we have any hopes against such an attitude?
The only answer to this is UNITY. Now I realize the significance of those words of wisdom - "United we stand, divided we fall". How true! The Bengal Government is so confident that the only way to counter the demand for a separate State is to divide the people. See how successful the move has been? Our people have failed to see this. Our people have failed to realize that in our Hills history has not been witness to the dominance of either a national or regional party. It has always been a localized party! If these people want to change this- good luck to them! BUT in the long run, it will be the people who will decide. Posterity will question them and will never forgive them.
